Day 4 – Langkawi

Headed further afield for breakfast again today at The Breakfast Station. Needed Coffee again as we had more nighttime interruptions with sex sounds and spankings coming from the next room. Totally not making this up. I could barely look at the guy when we walked past that morning while he sat outside smoking a cigarette – I felt like Claire and I had been in the room it was that loud. What is up with me, hotels and people having sex?

The Breakfast Station was picked because it supposedly had good coffee. I can assure you my experience wasn’t like that. Did I want coffee with my milk?

The pineapple pancakes looked awesome but were a little too dry.

We spent the rest of the day doing our usual routine of laying on the beach, going to Tomato Nasi Kandar and watching the paragliding. Living in Australia we aren’t as exposed to Muslim clothing as we were here, so we lived in a constant state of surprise watching women fully clothed with a headdress wading in to the ocean, riding jetskis and paragliding. Even when they talked on a mobile phone I was shocked – I guess because in my head it seems such an ancient tradition that they wouldn’t do that. They are muslim though – not amish, so it does make sense. Eventually we just became immune to the view though as it was so common. They probably have the same shock if they turned up to Bondi and saw people in their swimmers there.

We did go to Old Town White Coffee in search of a proper coffee and it was satisfactory – definitely the best one I’d had on the island so far. It was in the brand new shopping centre on the main street – so new that all the shops aren’t open yet. The shops were mainly just tourist things and cheapo stuff, not quite Pavilion standard, but an ok way to spend 30 minutes.

Later that night we went for a walk along the beach where I mucked about with the camera trying to get a photo of the lightening and storm off the island. Bored the shit out of Claire and this is the best I came up with, but whatever. 🙂
