Recently Slashdot did a post about the recent trend for taking cutting edge technology and ramming it in to analog type devices.
Geeks have been doing this since the first mini itx motherboards came out and they put them in to cases such as old ataris, tvs and women. Now that has become old school and the interest has turned to putting the guts of bluetooth bits in to old phones.
I absolutely love all this and think it is extremely funny to walk around talking on a cb radio when you are actually on the mobile.
But my favourite mod today is a tribute to the hip hop rappers of the early 80s – a tablet pc boombox.The attention to detail is inspiring and it was only when I saw the windows start bar did I realise that the tape deck was actually an lcd screen! The GUI screenshots that he has down the bottom are awesome. Very impressive – I want one!
