I’m not sure exactly what prompted it but for some time I’ve had a yearning for a replacement desk. My corner desk has served me well but I was feeling a little clustraphobic with all the drawers and cd holders looking down on me. A quick look around the internet for sit/stand desk brought me to the Ikea Jerker desk. I guess you can tell it’s a popular desk when the first site google returns is the shrine to the jerker desk.

It isn’t the most beautiful desk ever, but it excels in the ability to customize it to your needs. You pick the height of the desk, you decide how many shelves you need and you attach rotating shelves to your hearts content. You can also buy drawers for it. What I like is the ability to have 3 monitors or more on your desk and not suffer any stability issues. I also love all the flat desk space that is available to me.

I’m trying to incorporate this new desk in to my “getting things done” life revolution by adding tickler files and an inbox. I haven’t quite figured this all out yet, so the desk is a little bit more spartan than what it will end up being. I don’t intend to lose the minimalist approach though. Here are some before and after pictures:

Doesn’t it just accentuate the beauty of the imac while at the same time feel less cluttered?

Putting together the desk was quite a mission involving builds and rebuilds with lots of swearing. I decided that the world has got it wrong with the idea of going to the gym. Why are millions of people going to the gym and expending lots of energy that only gets lost on a treadmill when in reality they could be putting together ikea furniture. Just drop it off and come back an hour later to pick up. They get their workout and you get a stress free piece of furniture.
