When Danielle said we were going to play futsal at the Mooroka Bowls Club we laughed and said wouldn’t it be funny if we were playing on the greens. Well it was for real. Last night we playing on a bowling green surrounded by nets to stop us from smashing the ball in to the crowd.

Our team comprised of Doona, Mel, Mel, Lorena, Danielle and I. A few of us hadn’t played for over a year and a half and some hadn’t played for 2 months. So we were a bit clunky when we took to the field. Luckily our opponents weren’t too formidable in our first game back – only some ex premier league soccer players and a hockey team. So they smashed goals in to oblivion, but I don’t think we did too bad comparitively. Lorenna scored our two goals before leaving the field with a disturbing wrist injury. I was impressed that I touched the ball one or two times (even if they weren’t very useful touches) and was knackered within 5 minutes. I managed to accidently foul Sam on the other team spectacularly and they got a free kick out of it. But that’s ok cause Faye got her own back when she took me out by tangling her feet in mine. No harm done though.

The thing I like the most about soccer is that you can be shit the whole game and then have one moment of brilliance that makes you come back for more. I was happy with a triangle pass thing that I did with Lorenna and a fluky shot at goal which was thwarted by the keeper. I thought Danielle’s shot at goal, Mel Y’s shot at goal, Doona sister Mel’s goalkeeping and Doona’s defending were their brilliant moments. Lorenna has sublime dribbling skills and the one where she had two defenders on her, dribbled past them, forced the keeper to follow her and then slammed the ball in to the net through a small space was just kick ass.

Today I’m surprisingly not that sore, but I’m battling a dehydration headache and lack of sleep. Bizarrely my middle toes are sore because they are longer than my big toe and thus take all my weight. Poor things. 🙂
