The English Premier League has ended and it’s last few weeks it has taken with it half of the Australian team with injuries. Tim Cahill probably won’t get to play in the world cup, Mark Schwarzer has a broken cheek bone and Viduka and Kewell both have groin type injuries. Hopefully some of them will be better for the match against Greece that I’m flying down to Melbourne for at the end of this month. I haven’t ever gotten to see Viduka play in the flesh as he left Leeds before I saw them play in Melbourne as a warmup for the horrible season they were about to have. Now Tony Vidmar isn’t going to play either due to health reasons and he is one of them who deserves it the most. He has experienced all the heartaches of the last 3 attempts to make it to the world cup finals and now that they are in he is pulling out with irregular heart beat problems. It’s an especially huge loss as he was an influential figure in defence and there comes a certain comfort from having a stable back four. Attacking comes from defence don’t you know. 🙂

But just as sad is the fact that Wayne Rooney won’t be playing for England. Regardless of what team he plays in he is a phenomenal player and would have set the Cup alive. It’s just like 4 years ago when Beckham was injured 6 weeks before the Cup and we didn’t get to see him at full fitness. The English players play too many matches so by the time it gets to the world cup they only have 2nd team players take the field because they haven’t seen any action all year. Give them a break!
