I’ve been on an Oracle course all this week which meant that I had to go to work down the other end of town. The location of the training is at the Fortitude Valley end of Queen Street which means I’m in the Creek St part of town. This area is all finance and suits which is a marked difference from the part of the CBD I’m familiar with. I guess I can get away with wearing t-shirts and jeans to work because I’m surrounded by a Casino, a man made beach and a really trendy library. The finance end of Brisbane only has a big finger.
The best thing about the experience is that I have to walk a different way to work and see a whole bunch of stores and buildings that I’m not familiar with. This gives me a feeling of being in a totally different city which is really cool when I’m 32 years familiar with this town. Even walking in to the mall seems new when you approach it from the opposite direction. The only problem is that I haven’t yet been able to take advantage of my proximity to Cafe Modena since my time frames have been short and his lines have been long. I haven’t been able to park the scooter nearer but that turned out to be great because it meant that I got 15 minutes extra of ipod listening time during the walk.
My learnings from this is every once in a while take a different route to work. It makes life seem less mundane and more like an adventure.
Dear Amy,
I’m working with Michael Murphy Productions in Los Angles to edit some short web based videos for the MSN website that talk about the venues for the Live Earth concerts on July 7, 2007.
Saw your photos of Aussie Stadium & Sydney, and I need what ever photos of the Sydeney and the Stadium you’re willing to let us use to cover these lines:
“Live Earth,” 7 concerts from 7 continents on July 7, is a call to save our selves and our earth. The newly renovated Aussie Stadium in Sydney will host Live Earth’s concert from “down under.
