Lisa De VannaCongratulations to the Matildas for beating Canada last night and progressing out of the group stage. It was a bit of a shock to be a goal down after 1 minute but they do say that being a goal up early can be a disadvantage and for Canada it ended up being so. The Matildas dominated the match and were unlucky not to score in the first half. In the second half Collette McCallum scored from a free kick that would have made Beckham jealous. All Australia needed was a draw to get through and we thought we were sitting pretty until the 85th minute where Canada scored from a set play with a header. Failure is not a word the matildas know and it was the electric Lisa De Vanna whose pose in front of goal kept the Canadian defenders busy long enough for Salisbury to side foot it in to the goal in the dying moments fo the game. The Canadians were devastated.

Throughout the last two matilda matches the commentators have been lusting after the skills of Lisa De Vanna and as a long time fan I’m glad to see she has come of age with her soccer. I think she is more than just the female Harry Kewell, she is almost a Maradona or something. Every time she gets the ball she is dangerous. Very exciting player and I can’t wait to see what she does against Brazil in the next match.
